This is a barbarity, and it makes me think of a lot of things. One of them is Kent State, and the horrible thing that that was with those students being killed.

Kent State was a one off. It wasn't the beginning of more things happening like that on the same campus or in the same city or on campuses across the country. It was an excrescence. Whereas here, we see these people doing really horrible things on a regular basis.

These undertrained people, the job seems to attract a certain kind of person. Entirely all of them, but enough that we've seen this happen twice within the past two weeks.

The wrong kinds of people who are entrusted to keep order and have weapons are quite capable of killing white people, and in fact, kill more white people than black people.

It's about something larger, which is the people entrusted with keeping order. And it's not all about anti black men racism.

These people lack a basic gravitas that even scoundrels like Richard Nixon had.

Trump clearly not understanding the benefits of there being a world order and a NATO. He doesn't understand it because it's too abstract for him, so it's all about him.

It shows how utterly unqualified this president and the people who he has representing him are in running a nation. This shouldn't have happened.

The killing of Renee Goode — some would say murder of Renee Goode, that's a judgmental characterization, but I don't think it's inappropriate — and the killing of Alex Freddy.

The woman had been pushed to the ground in the video that I saw. He got into conflict with the agents as a result of, in effect, trying to react to her mistreatment. And he ends up being shot dead.

She was shot in the face more than once as well. I mean, this is brutality.

JD Vance's tweet: organized left wing resistance to legitimate enforcement of law. And then he had a similar kind of statement to make about Renee Goode in the immediate aftermath of her killing.

I don't think it's incompetence. There were not a way of carrying out this highly contentious policy that wouldn't attract some kinds of conflicts of the sort that we've seen here.

When Biden was president, a lot of people entered the country without authorization — millions did.

Trump campaigns on reversing illegal immigration, and he wins. Then he wants to implement it. And implementing it is not pretty. Implementing it is going to be fraught with conflict.

There is organized activism resisting his policy. This is a conflict about whether or not what they said they wanted to do with respect to immigration is actually gonna take place.

If we didn't have well funded activist networks training people how to be in the mix when ICE agents are trying to legitimately arrest, these people would still be alive.

The policy is, do we get these people out of our country or don't we? That's why you got these conflicting narratives, because at the root of it is a conflict over the policy.

The part of this that I'm missing is a sustained demonstration that the people who are being yanked out of the country are the ones who are dangerous as opposed to something more random, more based on just some sort of sniff test.

The women who walk around selling candy with their babies on their back are much rarer now. All of a sudden, they're mostly Ecuadorian. And I can tell it's because they don't wanna do what they're doing in public. Probably most of them don't have their papers.

There was a guy — there's a restaurant on the corner where the wait staff are all Latino. He was yanked away from his family quite abruptly six weeks ago and taken God knows where. Luckily, he got out of God knows where, but he can't come home.

Trump, Vance, Christy Noem, and company, are not telling us the truth. They are couching their initiative in terms of, we gotta get the murderers and the rapists out. But their target is anybody without authorization to be in the country.

That person has already broken the law by being in the country. They don't belong here if they don't have our approval. They jumped the queue. They showed flagrant disregard for American sovereign integrity by entering and staying in this country without our authorization.

This conflict is about whether or not the federal government is gonna override local judgment contrary to its declared policy and impede the enforcement of that policy, which is duly authorized under law.

We got Donald Trump. Donald Trump don't do compromise. He doesn't do measure. He does my way or the highway, and he's doing my way or the highway on this.

You feel that The United States needs to control its border more carefully, and that it's wrong that in certain quarters, there's this reflexive repulsion at any question about immigration at all.

I donated some decent money to help support his family along with many people in this neighborhood. Should he have been yanked away?

He wouldn't have been at the head of my list. Should he have been susceptible to being deported because he was in the country without authorization? Yeah. I mean, I don't know how you do border without having the consequence of crossing it without authorization be susceptible to removal.

He wouldn't have been at the top of my list. He wouldn't have been in the middle of my list. He would have been way down my list. But he would have been on my list.

There are reasons why people jump the turnstile. It's not just because they're rule breakers. Henry wasn't a rule breaker. He needed to get here. That person did not come here as a criminal. And he didn't come here because he just didn't feel like filling out some papers.

The procedure for entry shouldn't be so onerous. It's understaffed, and there's been a kind of a mission creep so that there's too much bureaucracy, such that a person thinks, I can't wait three years, and so I'm gonna just go with Carlos who's gonna get me into the country.

The country has had ample opportunity to vet this question, and they've decided to elect an administration with the mandate to enforce the border. And that's what they're doing.

The people who are actually gonna pay the price of having a country without a border in terms of competing for jobs and for civil attention are the ones who have to reckon with the disruptions associated therewith.

He being Trump, was very clear about this. I'm gonna build a wall. We're gonna send them back. We're gonna keep our country safe by enforcing our immigration laws, and the people voted for that.

This was sold as that the people who are sent here are the ones from the asylums and the prisons and the rapists. He did not say all Mexicans are rapists — that's a debate team game. But what he said is that they send us their rapists and criminals.

It's clear that they vastly over-generate that. Then the question I agree — why is it such a priority? And there are these people who are working hard and doing our gardening and taking care of our kids. And, okay, they didn't sign some papers. That's quite unideal.

why that given all of our other rather urgent problems? Why do they have to focus on that? And then I have to have to sound kind of woke. I can't help thinking that part of it is that they want those dirty people out of here because they're not really Americans.

the emphasis on murderers and rapists has been vastly overstated in comparison to the relative frequency of murderers and rapists amongst people who are in the country without legitimate authorization.

This is a policy that was voted for by the people through duly legitimate electoral processes. And the federal government has the responsibility to enforce immigration laws.

When you get local jurisdictions declaring themselves sanctuary cities and putting themselves in a position of obstruction or a lack of cooperation with the enforcement of federal law, you invite the kind of conflict that we're seeing play out on the streets in Minneapolis.

They don't get to decide what federal law is. The federal government through the electoral processes of Congress and the president, get to decide what federal law is.

How is that different from the Southerners standing in the schoolhouse door when the Supreme Court had overturned the segregation? It seems to me a similar kind of question.

certainly not all people who voted for the man thought they were voting for this.

this anti immigration effort is gonna involve these guys with guns who don't feel bad about shooting someone. Shooting Renee Good first in the face, and then as the car careens away, standing there and shooting two more times through the side window.

I admonish the vice president of The United States and the director of homeland security, secretary of homeland security and whatnot for coming to conclusions about the legitimacy of those shootings before the facts have been assessed.

I am siding with the administration insofar as they are acting on the mandate that they won in the election to enforce the border, which means removing people who are in the country without authorization.

what I saw of the killing of Alex Preti was very disturbing. He had a weapon. He wasn't brandishing it. They pull the weapon out of his pocket, and then they basically execute it.

We get to decide who is legitimately in our country and who is not. You have to ask our permission to come to The United States Of America.

what is not known is that the cops will do the exact same thing to a white teen who is either resisting or seems to be resisting in the exact kinds of situations. And I'm making a point. It's just that you never read about it in the paper, and so nobody knows.
